Planning your first trip to Scott’s River? Here is everything we wish someone had told us.
1. Wear water shoes
The river bed is smooth limestone — comfortable but slippery. Secure sandals or water shoes make the difference between relaxing and performing an unintended comedy routine.
2. The spring is cold (and that’s the point)
At around 24 °C the mineral water is refreshing in the best possible sense. You will gasp, then grin, then not want to leave.
3. Reef-safe sunscreen only
What goes on your skin goes into the river. We ask all guests to use reef-safe, biodegradable sunscreen — and we keep some at reception if you forget.
4. WhatsApp us when you’re close
The last few minutes of the drive are the most scenic — and the least signposted. Drop us a message and we’ll guide you in.
5. Bring cash and patience
Card facilities are limited in this part of Portland. And time works differently by a river — let it.
